Steinigke goes Africa!

December 27th, 2012 Posted in Backstage Tags: , ,

Most of you probably know our Head of Copywriting Michael Dill, who (among other things) accompanies the videos of „Steinigke on tour“ as a commentator. Well, Michael is now on his way to Africa to take part in the rallye „Dust and Diesel“. As long as his time and the internet connection allow it, he will keep us updated with short extracts along the way.

The start of the rallye is on the 28th of December in Tarifa, Spain. The route leads through Morocco, the western Sahara and Mauritania to Senegal, where „Dust and Diesel“ ends on the 13th of January.

Already in Mauritania, the cars of all participants are sold (but they are allowed to drive until the border of Senegal – then they use bushtaxis to reach their destination). Two orphanages will benefit from the complete proceeds. The orphanages are run by aepn and financed almost exclusively by the proceeds of the car sales. The rallye takes place two times a year, 25 cars and about 50 people participate every time.

The cars of the participants usually are older. They are bought cheaply and then brought in shape for the rallye. Michael drives a Mercedes MB-100D in a team with two friends. Steínigke supports Michael and his team in their project and helped them finance and rebuild the car.

We wish the Willie Tanner Racing Team and all the other participants good luck and are curious about the „live reports“ from Africa. Stay tuned!
